My main objective for this week was to prepare and ace the interviews for the symposium. I was very nervous and felt unprepared for the interviews so going into Tuesday my heart was racing. The interviews were not as horrible as I thought and I felt like all the questions were reasonable to answer. It also allowed me to get my feet wet and I met some amazing people. Mr. Sripuram from one of the interviews really challenged me by asking questions that needed some reflection. I also learned more about his journey in his career which was very beneficial to me. Coincidedly, this week was my first informational interview to interview a potential mentor. To be fully prepared, I emailed my interviewee, made a zoom link before hand and made sure it worked, also my interviewee’s linkedIn profile and just understood the path she had taken to become a data scientist. Because this was my interview, I totally felt nervous and felt like I could have talked more but my interviewee was amazing. I learned a lot about her journey to become a data scientist and just more about data science from a different perspective. It was very insightful for me because I understood more about what it is like working as a data scientist and different pathways there are. I think this week was, as I hoped, productive, a learning curve, but it was my first time feeling like I took a step forward in my ISM journey.
